Just like the title says. I might do the timing belt on the Miata, but want to make sure I don’t need to go all the way down to the head gasket. So what is the finest cheapest compression tester that reads true?

Mine is from (dun, dun, DUNNN) Harbor Freight. I’ve had it for several years and have used it about a half dozen times. It works great! I don’t think this is a tool you need to spend top money on. ALSO: O’Reilly has free loaners so don’t buy unless you really need one.

My local advance Auto didn't have a rental. I'll check napa or find an o o o O'Reilly's nearby. Some of the reviews of one I was looking at on Amazon had me scared as it read consistent, but low. My Miata has 170k. I'm looking to get a real idea of how it's doing, not just find a dead cylinder
